West Texas farmers tour California Arizona feed industry
One hundred eighty three West Texas farmers ranchers and businessmen including fourteen from Terry County returned Feb 23 from a week long stock feeding and grain market development tour of California and Arizona. They visited the University of Arizona Continental Feed Lots Benedict Feeding Company and the San Francisco Giants spring camp at Casa Grande. The county agent noted concerns over milo protein content and the economics of milo versus barley, and observed population driven land value changes and citrus orchard uprooting on the West Coast. The tour ended with a San Francisco stay and a return train trip to Lubbock via Albuquerque.
