Ex-sheriff Chick Lee Turns Hobbyist Painter
W L Chick Lee ex sheriff of Terry County and manager of the Texas Oklahoma New Mexico Coaches bus depot paints as a hobby. He took his first lessons last fall and now studies privately hours at a time producing portraits and landscapes in oils and acrylics while managing long bus hours. He enrolled at South Plains College earning art credit and entered six paintings in a local exhibit though he won nothing. Lee draws on memories for landscapes and uses photos for portraits. He and Mary Joe have two sons Claude and Joe Bob and he jokes about being hard to live with when absorbed in painting.

Cannon AFB to stage July firepower display near Melrose
Cannon Air Force Base will host a 11 am firepower demonstration on July 2 at the Melrose bombing range as about 900 Air Force Academy cadets visit Cannon from June 30 to July 9. The event features multiple aircraft including PF-4C Phantom and 52 TAC aircraft across 37 missions, plus air-to-air refueling and an UH-1F Iroquois rescue display.

McGowan Attends Army Reserve Officers' Training Camp
William J. McGowan II, son of Mr and Mrs Bill McGowan of 401 East Buckley, attends Army Reserve Officers Training Corps summer camp at Fort Benning. The six week program, starting June 16, covers physical conditioning leadership rifle marksmanship and field exercises. Successful completion earns commission as a second lieutenant in the U S Army.
