Santa Fe Ready to Move Brownfield Grain Crop Demand
Santa Fe President John S. Reed announced the railroad is ready and waiting to handle upcoming grain movements in the Brownfield area. The line expects to move over 20,000 covered hoppers and 3,000 box cars loaded with wheat, with a fleet of about 10,000 hoppers. The road has repaired and upgraded box cars, stockpiled equipment, and advanced crossing protections on Highways 137 and 83, as Seagraves district surfacing continues. Santa Fe emphasizes service to agriculture and local communities, maintaining readiness for production and marketing needs.

Conservation Notes urge more grass for pheasant nesting
Pheasants increase but nesting cover is scarce in April and May. Nests mainly in small grain and alfalfa fields suffer from early harvests, killing hens and eggs. Recommend seeding grasses like weeping lovegrass and switchgrass on minor land and timing irrigation to establish cover. suggest sorghum for dryland litter to aid next year's grass plantings.
