Four State Child Welfare officials attended the commissioners court meeting to present a contract and secure support for handling neglect cases in Terry County. They outlined that foster care expenses fall to the county unless Title 19 Medicaid covers medical costs and that signing creates a seven-member advisory board and places a case worker in Brownfield to aid reviews and eligibility for federal funds.

A four week resident of Brownfield, Bob Higgins and wife Jeanette moved from Hobbs. Texas Highway Patrol investigated six rural highway crashes in Terry County during May. No fatalities were reported and six people were injured. Sergeant H. E. Pirtle, the local Patrol supervisor, provided the figures.
The Rev Buford Battin serves as supply pastor at Brownfield Nazarene Church on Second Street and Tate, commuting from Lubbock twice weekly after Rev Nora Hanson fell ill with Hodgkins disease and could not continue. Battin, born in Montague County and long-time evangelist, will lead services until a permanent pastor begins September. He and wife Cordelia reside at 3015 47th Street with two married sons, Charles in Levelland and Tom in Clovis, both employed by First National Bank.
