July 4 Weekend Celebrations Set for Terry County Centennial
One week remains until Terry County’s centennial ceremonies and Independence Day 2004 with events on the courthouse lawn at 2 p.m. The Terry County Historical Committee will open a time capsule buried in 1979, followed by the Terry County Veterans Memorial Dedication Program led by the Howard-Henson American Legion Post 269.

Firecracker Run marks 35th year in Brownfield July 3

Dolaca will host a running event with a $10 entry for all runners and registration from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. on race day. Rain amounts vary across Thursday storm in Terry County
Thunder and lightning brought rainfall Thursday across much of Terry County with moisture totals from a half inch to over 2.5 inches. Needmore Gin logged 1.6 inches while some areas south of the gin saw heavier rain. Old Levelland Highway area reported about 1,000 acres of loss from hail and flooding. Birdsong Peanut Company noted a half inch at their facility, with higher amounts two miles southwest. Brownfield received 0.55 inches in total, plus 0.36 inches from a Friday night storm. County officials and farmers described crop conditions improving where water arrived, but dryland areas and some bailed-out crops suffered. Peanuts show strong growth, with irrigation continuing to support yields.
