Brownfield police report multiple arrests and property crime

Police reported Raymond S. Rodriguez, 20, was arrested after a disturbance on West Story Street and charged with being drunk in public disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Domingo Perez Jr., 30, was jailed for carrying a prohibited weapon and drunken public. A year-old Mexican boy was hospitalized after being hit by a ball causing a collapsed lung. Day care burglary totaled 63.37 with items stolen and damage. Other records note Ave linos Ramos, 52, drunk in public, and a spark plug thrown at a residence damaging a storm door and yard.

Church To Honor America Sunday at Calvary Baptist

Calvary Baptist Church of Brownfield will honor America Sunday June 29 during the 11 a.m. worship hour with an American loyalty theme. A National Guard unit color guard will present the colors and a special prayer will honor fallen military personnel. The church choir will perform patriotic music under the guidance of Rev. Clarence Branch who invites all to attend.

McGowan Elected Fellow of Texas Bar Foundation

Bill McGowan has been elected a Fellow in recognition of service to the Texas Bar Foundation. The foundation supports continuing legal education and improvements to justice administration and aid to the poor. He will be honored at the foundation's annual dinner July 1 in Dallas during the State Bar convention.

Cotton Crop Lowest In Two Decades In Plains Area

Plains Cotton Growers area reports 1,193,100 bales produced in 25 counties for 1974 with an average yield of 263.5 pounds per harvested acre. The TCLAS Texas Cotton Statistics is at the printers, per county figures for the state.

Heart Association Holds CPR Training Session in Terry County

The Terry County division of the American Heart Association schedules a CPR training session from 9 to 5 on July 12 in the Pioneer's Flame Room. David West of Lubbock leads with three assistants and Joel Franks chairs the education committee. First National Bank sponsors. Joyce White brings training aids and a resusci-baby for demonstrations. A children's clinic is planned for August with Delphian Study Club as sponsor. Total Heart Association contributions reach 4675 dollars, with 631 from memorials.

Pony Express To Run Here Races At Rodeo Arena

The world championship pony express will be staged at the rodeo arena at 8 30 each Friday and Saturday night with admission for adults 1 and children free Wayne Rousseau will be the announcer and the Sheriff s Posse sponsors a concession stand After the races Saturday night a dance will be held in the exhibition barn Everyone is invited to join the group for an evening of fun.

Local Pharmacist Injured In Wreck Near Wolfforth

Homer Irven Nelson known as Punch was in the ICU after a one car crash at about 1 30 a m Saturday on the curve north of Wolfforth. He was expected to be moved from intensive care soon. His son Tommy and nephew Hoot Nelson arrived at the scene before he was removed.

Later reports say Nelson was moved to Room 223 at Methodist Hospital. Visitation is limited to immediate family for several days. The room phone extension is 4-223.

Local Pharmacist Nelson Injured in Accident

Nelson a Brownfield pharmacist and co owner of Nelsons Pharmacies suffered a crushed pelvic socket two broken ribs a broken collarbone and a cracked skull along with numerous bruises and cuts. He underwent surgery Saturday.

Brownfield Resident Reflects On Town Growth Since 1960

J E Smith, born in Brownfield and now a Bowman Motors salesman, recalls Brownfield’s expansion from the 1300 block eastward and the town’s new school and facilities since he left for Tucson in 1960 for his sons' asthma. He notes the area has become more progressive.
