The Brownfield City Council heard a finance update from Chamber VP Bobbye Slack on the hotel motel occupancy tax. Balance stands at 51 366 with 9 157 in materials to be subtracted leaving 42 209. Major spends include 16 800 for highway signs and 3 513 for 10 000 tourist folders.

Terry County Grand Jury Indicts Five People Thursday
The Terry County Grand Jury returned five indictments after summer session. Mario Solis allegedly entered Western Club on May 18 to unlawfully take cash and damage machines. Francisco Trevino targeted a building owned by Russell Key on March 18 to unlawfully obtain property. Arthur DeLeon allegedly entered a building owned by Janie Alvarado on April 25 to obtain property from Leroy Marroquin Servantes faced May 6 charges for entering Maurice Storys building to unlawfully obtain property. Leslie Blackburn indicted for February 12 for taking U S currency valued between 200 and 10,000 without consent of owner Timothy Jinkins.

Brownfield High School principal Carey White explains the driver education program conflicts with sports and activities during the school year and that the classroom portion is offered only in summer. Two summer semesters provide 16 days of two hours of classroom work daily, with driving observed and behind the wheel. The program costs $90 and credit toward graduation is not awarded for the classroom portion.

The Brownfield School Board will meet at 7 30 p m Monday to discuss tuition tax credits for private school parents, a full day kindergarten program for 1982 83, sick leave and physical exam policies, school and athletic insurance, and delegate selection for a Texas Association of School Boards event in San Antonio. Information items include Texas Evaluation of Basic Skills results, 1982 83 budget prep, 1982 83 Spanish enrichment, and monthly reports by key staff. McPherson to Attend International Youth Sports Festival
