Cotton News Update on Texas High Plains Planting and Replanting
The Texas High Plains expected to plant 3.8 million acres of cotton this season, with 400,000 acres damaged by rain and hail. Most producers still have 3.6 to 3.7 million acres planted, aided by subsoil moisture and free replant seed for Paymaster varieties. Plains Cotton Growers and Monsanto promoted replant and crop destruct programs, keeping 1999 prospects bright despite late losses. 1998 drought slashed production to 2.58 million bales, with 42 percent of planted acres abandoned.

About 800 students enrolled this summer across 19 sessions May 31 to June 27. Tuition ranges from 625 to 1695 dollars. Since starting 13 summers ago, over 5,000 students have attended, with grants funding many day camps. Sea Camp aims to be an educational investment for the future.
