Murder charges filed against Brownfield man
Howard Daniel Ward of Brownfield is charged with murder in the shooting of Donald Ray Weaver of Sudan. Weaver died at Brownfield General Hospital after being shot near a residence and Slick's Place on N Sixth. Witnesses describe a car and suspect matching Ward. Ward arrested at the 400 Club. The weapon, a 22 caliber pistol, was not recovered as of Friday afternoon.

Caraway Named to National Educators Seminar
W. O. Caraway, Brownfield ISD superintendent, selected as one of 500 outstanding American educators to participate in a week long national seminar this summer. The Institute of Development of Educational Activities sponsors the 1977 Fellows Program on Critical Issues In Education with 20 leaders addressing participants. The IDEA program has hosted about 4500 educators from North America and overseas.

Brownfield Housing Authority Plans 50 Units
The Brownfield Housing Authority voted to build 50 moderate to low income housing units. Whitaker and Hall of Lubbock will prepare the plans with funding partly from the Farmers Home Administration. Deadline Nears for Crop Certification in Texas Wheat and Barley
Farmers must certify all wheat and barley acreage by June 20 and all cotton, grain sorghum, and corn by August 1 1977 as per Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Acreages must be reported even without allotments. Texas farmers will receive crop and livestock questionnaires in late May and June. Wheat loan rates for 1977 are set at $2.16 per bushel until updated.
