House Moves Toward Cotton Funding Increase Referendum

The House approved a bill by 370 to 6 to authorize a producer referendum on raising Cotton Incorporated funding beyond the current $1 per bale. The vote percentage, up to one percent of cotton value, will be set by the Cotton Board with Agriculture Secretary approval. PCG leaders from Lubbock and Slaton pushed the measure amid rising cotton market share and textile sales gains, with a referendum possible in late 1976 or 1977.
