Wash-Wear Finish Using Formaldehyde Process Edges Toward Commercial Use
Terry County extension notes report a USDA developed finishing method for cotton using formaldehyde to bind cellulose. Four firms show feasibility and one tests consumer acceptance. The process yields durable washwear, resists yellowing under chloride bleach, allows line or machine drying, but costs and equipment needs exceed many existing methods. Garment strength is maintained with improved control, though plant modifications may be required.
