Oil blast fatal to resident near Johnson Community

L. G. Chambliss, 29, of 711 Magnolia Ave, Brownfield, died after an explosion and fire at a Honolulu Oil Company pumping station about six miles northwest of Johnson Community. He suffered third degree burns over 96 percent of his body and died at Treadaway-Daniels Hospital. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church with burial at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Billie, two children, parents Loyd and Mrs. Chambliss, and several siblings.

City undertakes 4100 kilowatt power generator upgrade

General Electric engineers to begin assembling a 4100 kW generator after two of eight freight car loads arrived. The $580000 project, funded by a bond election, aims to raise city output to 10850 kW and meet rapid population growth. Completion in about 90 days.

Three Terry Men At Meeting in Alliance Nebraska

Three Terry County men attend a three day meeting in Alliance Nebraska as officials from the United States Canada and Mexico seek to resolve issues for a proposed north south international highway through Brownfield. Agriculture Committee To Meet Here Tuesday

A roundtable discussion of the Great Plains Program of Soil Conservation will be held when the Four County Agriculture Committee meets at 7 a.m. Tuesday in The Melody Restaurant. Principal speaker will be Blake Lovelace of Seminole. The committee covers Terry Gaines Yoakum and Dawson counties.

Jones Heads Terry County Unit Of Cancer Society

Bobby Jones of 507 East Broadway was elected to lead the Terry County Unit of the American Cancer Society at the annual meeting Tuesday night in the South Plains Health Unit. L. J. Richardson reported about 1500 dollars has been collected for the cancer program this year, and he said it is below the quota but a good start. Other officers were elected, including Mrs. R. D. See.

De-Linting Plant Planned Near Main Gin

The Farmer's Co-op Society No 1 Gin board voted to build a cotton seed de-linting plant near the main gin to operate in 1958. Manager L I White said it will cost about 40000 dollars, use four to five months of dormancy, and create year round and indirect jobs for Terry County.

Pioneer Woman Mrs Allman Dies In Terry Home

Brownfield resident Mrs Henryetta Allman died Thursday afternoon at her home in Terry after moving there in 1902 from Floyd County. Funeral services were held Saturday at Crescent Hill Church of Christ with John McCoy officiating. Burial was in Brownfield Cemetery beside her husband who died in 1939. Survivors include two daughters, a son, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. One son and a daughter predeceased her.
