Kiwanis Club Plans White Elephant Sale in Brownfield

The Brownfield Kiwanis Club promotes a White Elephant Sale on June 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 514 West Broadway. Proceeds fund club projects. donations can be picked up by calling Joe Willis, Jake Fulford, Heath Raye mer, or Melton Stewart, with Sydney Hester and Royce Couch coordinating merchant item pickups.

GenTel Opens New Plant Training School

GenTel began operations of a new plant training school on Tuesday June 3 led by area manager W A Dale Leigon. C E Harlan appointed plant training instructor. Courses cover basic installation and maintenance air machine maintenance ready access terminal paystation installation and maintenance. Each eight member class draws from the Western Area including West Texas Eastern New Mexico and Western Oklahoma. Courses vary from three days to three weeks using current telephone industry techniques.

Council Hears Fire Truck Bids and Budget Gap

City council in regular session considered bids for a new fire engine. Bids from John Bean Company and Daco Fire Equipment ranged from 36 817 to 38 738 dollars. Council accepted a Custom Ward LaFrance truck with a Myers Pison booster pump for 36 817 dollars and projected a six month delivery. Additional 12 000 dollars would be requested in the 1970 budget.

Will Hold Plant Clinic in June for Diseased Plants

Dr. Bob Berry and Lyn don Almand of the Extension Office in Lubbock will host a disease and insect clinic on Wednesday June 11. County agent Jim Joy says Berry is a plant pathologist and Almand an entomologist. Residents with diseased plants may bring them for inspection. unmovable plants like trees or cotton crops will be visited if the owner calls the county agent.
