A crowd of 1500 to 2000 attended the Friday night opening of the new Terry Country Park swimming pool. Ted Hardy leapt from the high board in a diving display while Maylor Arlie Lawrimore cut the ceremonial ribbon. Two young sisters reportedly fell into the shallow end but no serious injuries were noted.

San Augustine June 7 Lt Governor Ben Ramsey plans a summer campaign for reelection focusing on soil and water conservation and protection for Texas families through stable government. He calls for strict lobbying curbs, harsh penalties for selling to minors, elimination of loan sharks, and reliable insurance policies, aiming for full public protection in government.
J L Dusty Kemper division manager announced a new 5000 square foot air conditioned one story General Telephone Company of the Southwest office on the corner of Seventh and Tate streets in Brownfield. Commercial Contracting Co of San Antonio will erect and own the building leased long term. The Western Division office serves 33 exchanges across South Plains Texas and far eastern New Mexico including Hobbs Carlsbad Lovington Brownfield Lamesa Littlefield Levelland Mule Shoe.
Notices mailed by Local Draft Board 116 call eight men for induction into the Armed Forces on June 3. Eight others will undergo pre induction physicals the same day. The eight represent the board’s share of 586 called in Texas this month. The July call will total four in Texas with five to be inducted July 25. The clerk notes volunteers and men without children may fill the July call. Fathers must inform the board about children.
A large Friday night opening at the new Terry County Park pool drew about 1,500 residents. City leaders, planners, and artists attended a ribbon cutting and dedication with prayer, speeches, and demonstrations. Free swimming lessons will begin at 9 am Monday with registration available at the pool.
A record 124 persons appeared before Justice Lonnie Rhyne in May with fines totaling 2801 dollars. Of the amount, 2321 dollars went to the county and 530 dollars to the state. Most county funds support the Road and Bridge Fund. Rhyne urged drivers to slow down.
