Brownfield and Terry County hit by severe weather night
Garry Peebles reports a busy night in Brownfield and Terry County as thunderstorms lash the area with nearly an inch of rain and hail. City crews, volunteer firefighters, and police worked through the night responding to downed power lines, damaged buildings, and scattered outages across circuits nine six and two. Reports include a roof blown off a building at the compress, damage to Pedroza's Restaurant and Nothin Butt Smokes, a toppled shed at Cub Stadium, and a large tree stump uprooted on East Buckley Street. Power was restored in most areas by 5:30 a.m. with widespread outages and several cross arms and poles damaged.

Water district approves rule changes in meeting
South Plains Under Water Conservation District directors unanimously approved changes to proposed rules and additions effective July 1 1999 with a penalty action moratorium until September. The changes include test hole provisions for spacing exceptions and a late fee structure adjustment for spacing requests, plus a new 300 foot well spacing allowance under production limits.
