Outlook Optimistic For Cotton Markets in Texas Region
Don Johnson of Plains Cotton Growers in Lubbock said near term evidence favors gradual improvement while longer term prospects look stronger due to shifts in textile capacity and new cotton products. He noted USDA planting projections for 1975 may be unmet with acreage around 9 million, while Mississippi and other states face below expectations and weather delays. He warned a 6 million bale carryover and slack demand could restrain prices, unless textile demand rises. He highlighted open end spinning and Cotton Incorporated research as long term boosters for Texas cotton.
