Chamber Directors add two women to Brownfield board
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce directors unanimously appointed Dereesa Purtell to replace Bob Simpson and Tulane Hix to replace the late O D Hearn. The session also planned a June 19 South Plains College Country Caravan concert at the Amphitheater with a hamburger supper. The annual fishing tournament was rescheduled to July 17-18 due to heavy rains, with co organizers Purtell and Dirk Aaron and sponsors including First National Bank and GTE. Booths will feature the local radio club and refreshments.

Ernest Pauda Jr. edged Bill Harris 118 to 92 at City Hall to win the District 3 council seat after a May general election where Pauda had 71 votes, Harris 57, and Ray Cargill 37. Pauda led early voting 54 to 27 and Harris won 65 to 64 on Saturday. Panda replaces Tommy Hamilton on the council.

Brownfield ISD Offers Summer School In Multiple Programs
Brownfield Independent School District lists free remedial and enrichment courses for summer. Remedial and Bilingual sessions run June 8 to July 17 and 31 respectively, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, weekdays. Middle School students are eligible for remedial classes and grades 1-5 for enrichment. Brownfield High School offers half and full credit classes with schedules from July 24, including morning and late morning sessions. registrations underway. half credit $75, full $100, with payment due by June 22.

Summer school starts Monday at two BIS campuses
In a new plan for summer instruction BIS will run sessions at Colonial Heights for Kindergarten to third grade and at Middle School for grades 5 through 8. Eligible students include those below grade level in reading or under 70 percent mastery in math and those who failed TAAS or a class.
