Rodeo Parade Opens Terry County Rodeo Week

Brownfield hosts the Terry County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Parade at 4 p.m. starting downtown and winding along North 5th Powell to Main and Broadway before ending at the Goodpasture Elevator. The three day rodeo runs nightly at 8 p.m. with $3 adults and $1 children admission and after events dances featuring Cecil Caldwell and the Armadillo Flat Band at the county barn.

Stickhorse Race Friday at Terry County Courthouse

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual stickhorse race for children ages 2 to 6 at 4 p.m. Friday on the north side of the Terry County Courthouse. Ribbons will be awarded to first, second, and third in each age group.

USDA Reps To Meet With Area Farmers Agenda Set For Monday

Local farmer Rusty Andrews says a regional meeting of the National Cotton Council will be held Monday in the Brownfield High School Cafeteria at 2 30 p m. The council says USDA representatives will attend to explain details of the disaster program. All interested persons are urged to attend.

Farmers discuss program save hope and cash flow

Brownfield News canvassed Terry County farmers on the federal disaster aid. Ray Gober and H.L. King praised the program for easing gloom, boosting cash flow to merchants, and supporting cotton prices. Liles Barrier and Barrier noted partial relief but urged broader changes for next year. Brownfield Names New Football Coach Plans Aug 9 Workouts

Brownfield introduces Deane Wright as the new head coach after arriving from Canyon in May. He aims to field strong squads with 40 seniors, 40 juniors, 35 sophomores, and 39 freshmen, and outlines formations for varsity and junior teams. Workouts begin August 9 with physicals on August 2 at the fieldhouse, and girls’ athletes’ physicals on August 9.

Joe Becker Wins Four Year 6000 Dollar Scholarship

Joe Don Becker son of Mr and Mrs Robert Becker received a four year 6000 dollar scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. A Brownfield High School graduate he ranked top quarter of his class and earned multiple honors including DeKalb Agriculture Accomplishment Award Star Chapter Farmer and Star State Farmer Awards. He held leadership roles from chapter president to state convention delegate and participated in poultry judging meats judging livestock judging and farm radio teams. He plans agricultural business studies in college and was among 50 scholarship recipients at the Texas State FFA Convention funded by rodeo spectators to aid youth education.

City Lions Search For Camp Applicants

The Brownfield Noon and Evening Lions Clubs sponsor children to the Texas Lions Camp for Crippled Children in Kerrville this summer. The final two week session runs August 1 to August 14 with free camp and transportation arranged by the Lions Club. Eligible ages are seven to 16 including visually or hearing impaired and physically disabled children. 250 campers per session. Activities include swimming crafts nature study and a modified athletic program with an awards night.
