Sidewalk Sale Set for August at Brownfield Courthouse Square

Brownfield's annual sidewalk sale approved for August 12 by Chamber of Commerce committee led by Bill Frizzell. 48 booths will line all four sides of the courthouse square and the event will run all day. Some stores will participate with preschool items in demand before school starts.

Death of Terrell Knight Brings Local Funeral Plans

Terrell Knight 59 a longtime Brownfield resident from Graham died Friday after collapsing while cutting grass at his home 110 E Main He was a former monument maker and owner of Knight's Joy Children store Funeral services were set for 10 a m Monday at First Methodist Church with burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction Surviving family includes wife Daisy daughter Mrs Dan Roberts two brothers J B and Rex two sisters Mrs Belle Orrell and Mrs C V Trigg and two grandchildren The cause of death is believed a heart attack.

Drylands Need Rain Across South Plains For Cotton

Darrell Franks of Brownfield won one of two Santa Fe Railroad scholarships worth 500 dollars for leadership and farming work shown at the state FFA convention in Houston. He lost the presidency race to Ronny Wood of Sulphur Springs amid a large Terry County delegation with seven Brownfield attendees. Evelyn Cruce Earns Play Day Honors in Golf Event

Evelyn Cruce Way medalist in the Brownfield Women's Golf Assn Play Day this week. Maron May, Maxine Stelle and Floy Cadenhead tied for first in the blind bogey contest. Helen McClain won the putting contest before a noon luncheon. The Dubbers entertained the Flubbers at the luncheon after a prior contest between the groups.

Local Scouts Head to Philmont Camp for 12 Days

Nine Brownfield Boy Scouts and three from Denver City depart for Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron for a 12 day program. Led by Lee Lidzy and M. J. Craig Jr. the group will camp, hike, horseback ride, and fish, with Philmont’s wildlife including deer elk and mountain lion noted.

Credit On Upswing As Russians Demand Luxuries

Lewallen Scores On Navy Exam

Vernon Monrow Lewallen Jr. son of Mr and Mrs. Vernon Monrow Lewallen Sr. from 5028 8th made a perfect score on his Navy qualification test. He enlisted through the Lubbock office at Albuquerque New Mexico and was sent to San Diego for basic training starting June 30. He will attend the Nuclear Field Electronics school and later serve on a nuclear submarine. He missed only two questions on the test, the highest score ever recorded in the Albuquerque office.
