Hospital Board extends land sale after closed session

The Brownfield Regional Medical Center Board in Linden, Texas, extended for six months the offer to Sullivan Companies to buy land west of BRMC for a retirement home. The original price was 57629 dollars. The vote ended tied 2-2 until President Jimmy Jones cast the deciding vote in favor.

Crenshaw Named New Director Eyvonne Crenshaw Palmer

Eyvonne Crenshaw Palmer was installed as director for the Legal Division of the State Bar of Texas for District 6 at the annual convention. She won a two year term by District 6a voters, representing a 23 county area in West Texas. Palmer is a certified legal assistant and real estate specialist at Bradford L. Water meeting on July 20 for Terry County water district

The Terry Ag Leadership Institute invites Terry County voters to a town hall at 7:30 p.m. in the Terry County Courthouse district courtroom. State Rep. Jim Rudd will speak, with Gary Walker of Sandy Land UWC District also present, along with all candidates for the proposed Terry County water district. The panel will outline advantages and disadvantages of the district.

Brownfield High School summer band starts August 3

Parade Kicks Off 1992 Terry County Rodeo Events

The 1992 Terry County Rodeo opens with a parade at 4 p.m. Thursday July 23. Rodeo runs Thursday to Saturday with eight nightly performances at 8 p.m. Features include bull riding team roping barrel racing calf roping and more. Admission four dollars adults one dollar children. Tickets for a July 25 drawing prize available from Sheriff’s Posse members.

County Fire Marshal appeals for July 4 fireworks revival

Jimmie Rodgers Terry County fire marshal told the Commissioners Court on Monday to coordinate with Brownfield city officials and the chamber of commerce to reinstate a downtown July 4th fireworks display. He noted county costs from fireworks related fires and urged a joint effort to keep celebrations in town.

City Council Plans Regular Session at 7 30 A M in Brownfield

Brownfield city councilmen meet in regular session to review an annual audit by Love Hays and Co. and consider a resolution allowing regular license plates on unmarked investigation units. They will ratify the Ambulance Board purchase, review bids for oil and seismic lease on Terry County Airport land, and accept sale bids for junk and surplus equipment.

Four Brownfield High School student council members attended the Texas War on Drugs Youth Leadership Conference at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth from July 8 to 11. Participants included Becky Brisendine Amy Neill Eric Caswell and Kristi Fonseca with Regina Bligh absent. Sponsors were Gina Kelly and Rocky Ford Brownfield CISD employees who aim to spread drug abuse awareness through peer programs.

Babe Ruth tournaments underway at Cub Diamond

Brownfield's 13 and 14-15 all-stars opened district Babe Ruth action Tuesday with 14-15 facing Levelland and 13s drawing Denver City. Denver City and Levelland earned byes in their rounds. No results printed. Sunday News will publish outcomes. Both squads play again Wednesday at 6 p.m. and about 8 p.m. respectively.

ISF Grand Opening With Ribbon Cutting Friday

The Intermediate Sanction Facility opens with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. this Friday followed by an officials only barbecue at 6 p.m. A 5 p.m. facility tour precedes the event. Tours continue Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with State Rep. Jim Rudd, Sen. John Montford, prison system dignitaries, and local officials attending.

Fifth Brownfield Fishing Tournament Opens Friday

The fifth annual Brownfield Fishing Tournament sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce starts at 5 p.m. on July 17 and ends at 7 p.m. July 18 at Gilliam Park. Up to $5,500 in cash prizes will be awarded. For details call Mark Alexander at 637-4225.
