BISD Trustees hire new band director and staff
Brownfield School Board on Tuesday approved hiring of Blaine Hinton as the Spirit of the Plains band director replacing Rob Lovett. Jamie Shipp named assistant band director. Also added seven faculty including Amy Hill Michael Hill Larry Schubert Karissa Bledsoe Mary Jane Hildreth and others. Several resignations accepted including Lovett and others pending further staff changes before school starts.

Brownfield Fourth of July celebration praised by locals
A Brownfield park gathering drew about a thousand residents for hot dogs ice cream soft drinks and lawn chairs with neighborly visits and a grand fireworks finale. The event organized by the Brownfield Businessmen Association and Brownfield Chamber of Commerce showcased small town unity and was hailed as a model for future Fourth of July celebrations.

Terry Rodeo schedules July event at Brownfield grounds
The Annual Brownfield Rodeo in Terry County runs July 24 to 26 for three evenings at 8 PM at the Terry County Rodeo Grounds. Sponsored by the Terry County Sheriff's Posse the schedule includes bull riding team roping breakaway tie down calf roping saddle bronco riding senior and junior barrel racing bareback riding bull dogging and a county team championship roping with a kids calf scramble. A parade at 4 PM July 24 through downtown Brownfield kicks off the event.

Meadow Musical Parade Opens 15th Annual Event
Meadow will kick off its 15th annual Meadow Musical with an 11 a.m. parade through downtown on Saturday. A noon meal, arts and crafts, and other activities follow in the afternoon. A barbecue at 5 p.m. costs 5.50 per person before the musical program of country and western, bluegrass, and gospel songs runs until midnight.

Fourth of July accidents keep Brownfield police busy
Over July 4 weekend Brownfield saw several accidents, mostly minor. At 12 24 a m July 5 at Lubbock Road and Lanny Ave a 1981 maroon Chevrolet Z 28 and a white GMC Sierra Pickup collided with one driver allegedly under the influence and unrestrained. A second crash at 9 10 a m on E Hill involved a 1979 Ford two door and a 1981 Ford F 150 with no injuries. A third collision at 11 53 a m on Seventh St involved a 1986 Ford 450 and a 1975 Ford pickup with no injuries. A midnight July 7 crash saw a 1975 Ford pickup collide with a 1980 Buick. injuries not noted. Earlier, a money bag stolen from a vehicle yielded $100, and a burglary on Tohoka Rd reported jewelry and other items taken.

Hinton to be feted as new Brownfield band director
A reception for Blaine Hinton the new Brownfield High School Band Director will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Brownfield High School Commons. Sponsored by the Brownfield Band Booster Club the public is invited to meet him. Hinton comes from Snyder where he directed junior high bands for three years.
