Firecracker Road Race Draws 111 Runners
The West Texas Running Club hosted its 13th annual Firecracker Road Race drawing 111 participants from New Orleans Fort Worth El Paso and South Africa. Wilson Kigen of South Africa won the open 10 mile with 53 59, Rich Anderson of Lubbock was second, and Juan Ledesma of New Orleans third. The 3 mile race saw Steve Stallings of Stanton win with 14 41.5, with Buddy Hutto of Clovis and Stan Leech of Brownfield next. Women’s top finisher was Ann Goldhamer of Lubbock.

Rain Invigorates Terry County Cotton Across County
Saturday night rainfall varied across Terry County with northwest areas receiving about 1.5 inches benefiting drying cotton. Pool Gin reports upwards of two inches for many producers while Tokio and Gom ez areas saw only traces. Foster Gin area measured .7 inch and three miles south about one inch, Lahey Gin southwest of Brownfield .3 inch. Irrigation has begun in some zones and older cotton is thriving, though Foster Gin notes poorer looking cotton. No hail damage reported by Brownfield residents. some hail reports from northwest.

Loud Holiday Activity Keeps Police Busy
The Brownfield Police Department stayed busy this weekend with 26 fireworks disturbance reports and many loud party calls. Eight arrests were made for public intoxication and four burglaries were investigated with a sizeable amount of property involved.

Local Boys Bring Home Eight Basketball Awards
Some 36 future Brownfield Cub cage stars attended the Phoenix Suns camp at Roswell New Mexico and seven of the youngsters came home with awards. The Brownfield group, ages 10 to 14, were led by Brownfield Middle School Coach Scott Barton. The camp ran June 21 to 27 and drew 282 players from Texas New Mexico Colorado Arizona California and Arkansas. Brownfield won eight of the 16 awards across four age divisions.

Trade Development Group reviews upcoming community events
