Six Building Permits Issued During June

June saw six building permits issued totaling 10 860 with year to date 46 permits worth 179 376. Largest permit 5 000 for a 56 foot Conoco sign at Tom Pettigrew’s Conoco Station. Other permits include storage houses and additions on several addresses. A separate Loyalty Day program featured State Representative Jesse T. George and Dr. W F Mattox speaking.

Loyalty Day Parade Falls To Heavy Rains In Brownfield

Brownfield observers packed the Piggly Wiggly lot as July 4 parade plans dissolved under .75 inch of rain. The Brownfield High School bands performed a brief concert before a 10:30 a.m. auditorium program with state and local officials, including Sunny Martinez and Sen. H. Dee Blanchard, praising patriotism and civic effort.

Brownfield Uses Canadian River Water in June

In June Brownfield consumed 46,485,400 gallons of water with 5,835,400 gallons from the Canadian River Program. The first water moved through city lines on June 16, peaking at 2,451,800 gallons in a day. The Canadian River supply will continue through August, with permanent mains connection planned for January.

City Council to Convene Morning Session in Brownfield

Brownfield City Council holds its first July meeting at 8 30 a m today in City Hall Council Room. Mayor C F E Ross presiding. Bids for a sewer machine and a Pioneer Natural Gas rate increase request will be considered. Hospitalization and insurance for city employees and the annual audit report will be discussed.

Holiday Law Activity Increases as Fireworks and Mischief Rise

City officials manned holiday duties amid fireworks violations and neighborhood disputes. Charges and arrests included reckless driving for two juveniles and an 18 year old Gene Sanders, with runaways, minor in possession, forgery, drunkenness, and indecent exposure among those detained. fines and bonds varied, and one juvenile was sent to Tulsa authorities while Jose Carrera faced driving charges.

Police report multiple arrests and bonds in county

Several individuals face charges including driving while intoxicated with $1000 bonds for Carl Proctor and others. Jailed defendants include Charles Brooks for disturbance, five encyclopedia salespeople for soliciting without permit, Joe Will Fullbright for forgery, and Lorenzo Banda Leija for enticing a minor with various bonds. Emerson Cadmar held on drunkenness and resisting arrest amid fines totals.

Funeral services for Mrs Bates set at East Hill Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Bates 42 will be held at 2 p.m. today at East Hill Church of Christ with Dr. Kenneth Avarett of Harrison Ark officiating. Burial at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction. Survivors include husband and children, parents, sisters and brothers.
