A Terry County 4-H Parent Leader meeting is set for 5 30 p m Monday July 9 at the Terry County Extension Office. Agenda includes planning the 4 H Banquet and the 4 H booth and float for the Harvest Festival.
The Terry County Cemetery Association will hold a meeting in the Jury Room of the Terry County Courthouse at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 9.
The City of Wellman will host its annual Independence Day event in the Community Building south of Wellman Union School starting at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by Southwest West Cotton Growers Gin, the evening features a $5 hamburger meal, an auction at 6:30, performances by Lone Prairie Band and a Lubbock group around 8, and a 30 minute fireworks show at sunset. Everyone is invited.
Brownfield city hall seeks eight teams for a new men’s basketball league this summer. Contact Scott Jackson at 637-4547 by 5 p.m. Friday July 6. Entrance fee is 300 dollars per team. Players must be 18 or older.
The Cotton Trail Quilters of Terry County sponsor an open quilting bee at Coleman Park Party House on Monday July 9 from 9 30 a m to 8 p m. Contact Terry County Extension Agent Mary Collier at 637 4060 for more information.
Terry Lou Moorhead 82 of Brownfield died Monday in Lubbock. Services Friday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church Brownfield with Rev. Randy Land. Born October 18 1924 in Brownfield to Rudolph and Eva Moorhead she taught fourth grade at Brownfield Elementary for 41 years. Survived by three nephews Greg Moorhead Michael Moorhead Larry Moorhead and sister-in-law Joyce Moorhead. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Retirement Association Meals on Wheels WMU and church ministries. Preceded by her parents and brothers Tom and Durward.
The Terry County Extension Services will sponsor a free day camp for elementary through eighth graders, running Monday to Thursday from July 9 to August 2. About 20 to 25 students per group will join six age-specific groups, with activities including a visit from the Masked Raider, dairy cows, and a safety presentation on electricity. For details contact 637-4060. volunteers are welcome.
