Filing deadline nears for May 3 primary races

February 3 is the final day to file for Democratic or Republican primaries for county or district offices. May 3 primaries will determine nominees for the November general election. Contested races include precinct two commissioner Bill vs Melvin Carroll and precinct four James Martin vs Jimmy Berryhill. Incumbents listed include Redhelle Davis tax official, Lyn Proctor JP, Herbert Chesshir county judge, Betty Frazier district clerk, Bobbie Paresd county treasurer, Ann Willis county clerk. Filing contacts: Dub Holleman and James Evans. Voter registration deadline April 3. Absentee voting April 14 to 29.

Banks report quarterly gains for Brownfield banks

Brownfield's First National and Brownfield State banks released their Q4 1985 reports showing asset and deposit increases from 1984. First National rose to assets 77.997 million and deposits 70.541 million with loans near 28.13 million. Brownfield State rose to assets 46.206 million and deposits 42.561 million with loans around 8.222 million.

County approves vehicle purchase for sheriff department

After two months the Terry County Commissioners accepted a net bid of 10,955.50 for a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice police package from Neal Echols Chevrolet. The bid beat a Ford offer of 11,114.52 and includes a 3,171.50 trade in on a 1983 car, with delivery estimated after three months due to required police equipment.
