BHS Named Most All Region Band Selections
Brownfield High School led Region 16 with 52 students named to the 1981 All Region Band after Thursday tryouts at Coronado High School in Lubbock. The district will supply fifteen top players for the regional ensemble and host a public concert Saturday night at Monterey. Richard Crain of Spring High School in Houston will be the clinician.

Brownfield High School band members Ricky Villarreal and Royce Chambers earned spots in the 198! Texas All-State Band at Texas Tech University in Lubbock after advancing from Region 16. They join fellow BHS musicians in the statewide honors, with the All-State Convention set for February in San Antonio.

Joint Session Tackles Hazardous Intersection
Brownfield City Council and Terry County Commissioners Court met with the Texas Department of Highways to review the hazardous intersection at Highways 137 and 62 known as the 14th Street intersection. A 14 hour traffic survey and a 210 foot stop line distance were cited as factors while funding and cross jurisdiction questions loom.

Appraisal District Letters Status of Local Coding
The Terry County Appraisal District says Goodpasture Computer Services won the 1981 service contract and a terminal and program are set. Properties in Brownfield CISD and Brownfield are coded, with Terry County properties being added in Loop O Donnell Dawson Tahoka Ropesville and Seagraves districts. Additional tax roll from Meadow ISD will be included and data from Wellman and Union schools will be borrowed soon. The McMorries appraisal is ahead of schedule and rural property will be included. Engineers discussed wiring signals and site layout, showing maps and an aerial photo during the meeting.

Minor accidents and thefts reported to police this week
The department logged several minor incidents including a bicycle theft, vehicle break ins with in dash tape and radios stolen, and four red white athletic bags missing. A window at La Nortenita Restaurant was broken with a minor injury observed. Disturbance, harassing calls, nursing home disturbance, and prowler reports followed. Two minor crashes occurred near the post office and at 1st and Broadway involving older Chevrolet models.

Ground Hog Ball Set by Terry County ACS
The Terry County Unit of the American Cancer Society hosts its annual Ground Hog Ball on Saturday, January 31 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Brownfield Country Club. The Sandy Land Swing Band from South Plains College will provide music. Tickets are available from Ms. Evelyn Carey at 637-2227.
