BISD Extends Hendley Contract and Sets April Trustee Elections
In a brief three hour session the BISD School Board extended Superintendent Don Hendley's contract through June 30 1987 and ordered the April election to fill three vacancies. The move followed a 90 minute closed session and was approved unanimously. The board also accepted Jeff Bearden's resignation to become Breckenridge High School head basketball coach and teacher. Armando Sedano will assume head baseball coaching duties this spring and a computer science teacher vacancy remains.

Grand Jury indicts 13 in Winter meet
Terry County's Grand Jury in a winter session handed down 13 indictments against 12 defendants. Salvador and Eraclio Otero-Miranda were indicted on one count each of theft of a 1983 Ford pickup, allegedly stolen Nov. 5 from a farm home south of Brownfield. See Winter.

Joe A. Burleson longtime Meadow School administrator and active church and civic leader was named Terry County 1984 Citizen of the Year at the Chamber Banquet in the BHS Commons. The event drew about 300 attendees with BISD Superintendent Don Hendley as master of ceremonies and awards also given to Sandra Hinkle and Brownfield News Publisher Lynn Brisendine.

City rebates drop in January under Brownfield tax plan
State Comptroller Bob Bullock reports the city's January rebate payment fell to 22506 dollars from 27030 a year earlier while statewide rebates rise over 15 percent due to new items taxed.
