Brownfield two banks posted higher 1988 assets and deposits with total combined assets reaching 143.361 million and deposits at 129.952 million, up about 8 percent from 1987. Loans declined about 2.7 percent to 31.191 million for the quarter. Individual banks mirrored the gains and slight loan drop.

Wellman Wildcats senior Scott Rowden named Second Team All-State defensive lineman by the Six-Man Coaches Association after a standout season. Rowden, 6-0 160, racked up multiple interceptions and tackles, plus solid rushing and receiving totals, creditting coach John Cornelius for the honor amid a rough team record.
