Ungrateful letter recalls Cap and home change tale

Poteet Addresses West Texas Cotton Quality Crisis

Bob Poteet, executive VP of the Lubbock Cotton Exchange, spoke at the Terry County Cotton Marketing and Improvement Association meeting on what the market wants. He warned mills seek longer staple cotton and higher quality, urged licensing gins for a certified quality system, and noted a Cotton Institute forum in Lubbock on Feb 28 with grower and mill representatives. A panel discussed bed prep, planting, fertilization, and harvesting, with Swain and Farrar reelected to the board.

Trustees Hear Report on Minimum Wage Law at Board Meeting

Brownfield School Board discussed the new minimum wage law effective Feb 1. The wage is $1 per hour with overtime after 44 hours, costing the district about $1,256 this year for 37 cafeteria workers. Board approved raises and related hires, including Paula Pelt as English and speech teacher and Ray Anderson as school attorney.

Protective water depletion claim urged for 1963 tax return

John Kendrick of the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District announced landowners in Gaines Yoakum Terry and southern Cochran should file a protective water depletion claim with their 1963 federal tax returns. Without a claim by April 15 1967 the deduction may be lost.

United Fund drive surpasses goal in Terry County

Terry County residents surpassed the $27 000 goal with a total of $27 012 28 led by divisions including Employe Schools Rural Advance and Wholesale. A celebration and awards will be held at 4 PM Friday in the Flame Room of the Pioneer Natural Gas Building with Mayor Ross presenting to leaders.
