Funeral services for Lewis T. Simmonds 58 longtime Brownfield civic leader and city employee were held at First Christian Church with Rev. Jack Garrett officiating. Burial followed in Terry County Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction. Simmonds died after a suspected heart attack at his home found by his wife. He earlier worked for Brownfield Funeral Home and later served as Building Plumbing and Electric Inspector. He was active in many local and state professional groups and emergency services. Surviving family includes his wife three sons his father and seven grandchildren.
Gen Tel Southwest reports ice and wind cause overloads on lines and damaged water pipes. Crews from Guymon and Perryton assist, with extra staff on standby and toll facilities deployed. City of Brownfield notes few service-line failures, but water lines require repairs as temperatures shift, with power plant briefly switching to natural gas.
The Brownfield School Board will hear an in depth study on the high school vocational education program by Charles Reese and Don Hensley during its regular meeting at 7 30 p m Monday in the School Administration. Board members will also hear a report on media utilization from Gerald Rogers director of media and technology at the Education Service Center. Trustees are to receive reports on federal programs and curriculum before the financial session led by James Willis financial administrator and J O Burnett tax assessor collector. The meeting will close with an executive session for the annual evaluation of Superintendent W O Caraway.

Mary Ruth Hope, Baylor University student and son of Dr and Mrs Sherman A Hope, traveled from Arkansas to Jordan Egypt Israel and Nazareth during Christmas season. She performed in Jerusalem and a Baptist Missionaries concert presenting the Messiah before King Hussein and his wife.
