Hospital Board Hears Medicare Discussion

The Terry Memorial Hospital Board heard from Larry Anderson of Mason Nickels and Warner about Medicare debt totaling 171 400 after audit reduction from 320 000. Be ttina Brooks discussed TEFRA reforms and potential effects on hospital costs and taxes. The board unanimously approved a 6352 bid to replace a hazardous steamer in the kitchen and discussed new air conditioning work and recruiting four Registered Nurses including two from Canada and one from Iowa. BRMC reported December 38 surgeries 13 deliveries and 38.34 occupancy.

Local Attorney Diffuses Hostage Situation In Texas

A former Brownfield man, Jack Curtis Dye of Lubbock, is jailed in Terry County on aggravated kidnapping charges after holding his ex wife hostage in her home at 1204 East Harris. The incident began at 3:53 a.m. when Dye entered the residence, dragged the woman to a bathroom, and aimed a shotgun at her while authorities negotiated through doorway friends. After an hour and a half, Dye allowed a man named Dyess into the room and, following a 45 minute exchange, Dye disarmed himself and surrendered the weapon. The woman was revived after passing out and Dye was booked with a $100,000 bond and transferred to Terry County jail awaiting arraignment.

Airport Renovation Project Tops Agenda

Terry County Commissioners in their first regular session of the year approved advertising for bids on the long delayed Terry County Airport renovation, focusing on northeast southeast runway 20. The project originates from 1981 findings of severe deterioration and moisture damage. A TAC grant covers most costs, with money still available, and bids will be opened February 7 in a special meeting.

Weekend Font: Brownfield Police respond to break-ins and vandalism

Brownfield Police report a busy weekend with multiple break ins and thefts from residences and businesses. Items stolen include an antique store piece, an Atari game collection, a battery charger, and a chain saw, with window damage at a pharmacy and a car. About 30 arrests logged, including seven for border patrol, two juvenile thefts, three alcohol sales violations, seven public intoxication, and one traffic warrant.

County Districts Tax Collections Reviewed

Early in the year tax time covers school hospital city and county levies. Citizens must pay by Jan 31 to avoid penalties that rise monthly through June and beyond. County Jail Compliance Certified

Joe Slater supervising inspector from the Texas Jail Standards Commission certified Terry County jail after a daylong inspection. Slater said the facility met all minimum standards and is approved to remain open.
