Tax Appraisal office warns of looming property tax deadline

Terry County property owners have three weeks left to pay taxes to any of the county's 10 governments. Friday, Jan. 31 is the deadline to avoid penalties. After Jan. 31 penalties and interest rise monthly, reaching 12 percent penalty by July plus ongoing interest and 15 percent attorney fees. Postmark by Jan. 31 if paying by mail. Local church hosts three-day quick build for new auditorium

About 400 volunteers from Colorado, Kansas and parts of New Mexico Texas gathered outside the Brownfield Kingdom Hall for a three day project to construct a new auditorium and remodel the existing building. Project overseer Nevada St Clair noted labor is donated and travel costs saved about $90000. Workers from Lovington Clovis Artesia Perryton Clarendon Abilene Sweetwater and El Paso came to the site. all are baptized Jehovah's Witnesses seeking spiritual reward.

Brownfield seeks wind power interview in Washington

Brownfield officials and a wind power company representative travel to Washington, D C, to be interviewed by the DOE and EPRI regarding the Wind Turbine Verification Program Phase III. The project would place two clusters of three turbines each on city outskirts, tying directly into local lines, with possible funding and location changes under consideration.

Terry County Commissioners Open 1996 Meeting Agenda

The Terry County Commissioners meet at 10a.m. Monday to set salaries for officials and employees, appoint county committees, form a grievance committee, approve first year orders, and consider bids for health insurance and new vehicles. They will reconvene with Architect David Messersmith on the West Texas Children's Center progress and approve deputation records for the Sheriff’s Department and Tax Assessor-Collector.

BIDCorp to hear tax report and facility incentives

The Brownfield Industrial Corporation board meets Monday at 4 p.m. in the City Council Board Room to hear an ad valorem tax update with Ronny Burran and a report on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison Board meeting.
