City Council weighs building use and costs for new facility
The council seeks broad community use and help paying annual operating costs estimated at 30 000 to 40 000 dollars. The city would insure the building and furnish a kitchen and offices while charging fees to non affiliates and offering free use to supporting organizations. The Chamber of Commerce manager would handle bookings and collections. A 25 percent contribution from a supporting group is requested, with no guarantee from the Texas Military Facilities Commission. The city also discusses franchise changes with Charter Communications to ease restrictions and attract new cable providers, while declining a 22 000 dollar offer for 501 S 1st St due to lack of use and potential environmental concerns.
