Burton G. Hackney was sworn in as Commissioner of Public Welfare for Texas, succeeding the late John H. Winters. He had served 12 years on the State Board of Public Welfare, eight as chairman, and was named to the post December 4, 1966. The ceremony was led by Associate Justice Meade F. A committee, including a post member, a local pastor, a Terry County professional, a farmer or businessman, and a county woman, will select the recipient based on courtesy efficiency service beyond duty and personal appearance. The winner will receive $100 and an engraved plaque, residency of Terry County for at least one year required.
