Murder Charge After Brownfield Shooting Death
Richard Galvan a 23 year old Brownfield resident was killed by four close range shots on State Highway 137 near an old cemetery. Reynaldo Gareia 26 faces murder with malice charges and Domingo Alvarado 23 is charged as accessory with bonds set. Galvan had been awaiting trial in another case and was Garcia’s brother in law.

New Year Quiet For Town With Minor Police Actions
City police report a quiet New Year period with two arrests for drunkenness and a burglary scare in the Magnolia 700 block. A total of four of five missing medical bags were recovered, one bag remains missing, and two bags tied to Dr. Morris Knox were located near a pasture. A traffic collision at Island Hill involved a 1961 Cadillac and 1961 Ford with injuries. Funeral services were held for Santos Galvan with a Brownfield church procession and several siblings named as survivors.

Trucker's Sleep Cause Kills Dozens Of Cattle Near Brownfield
A 1964 Mack truck hauling cattle from Old Mexico to Vega overturned on the Seagraves Highway about five miles south of Brownfield in the early hours Saturday. An estimated 25 to 30 cattle died, with many others scattered. The driver allegedly dozed at the wheel, crossing into the opposite lane and tipping the trailer. The crash blocked the southbound lane between 2:30 and 3:00 am. Texas Highway Patrolman Tommy McMeans credited the Terry County Sheriff's Posse, about six volunteers, for aiding in removing carcasses and rounding up remaining calves.
