Next stop on the playoff trail heads to Amarillo on Tuesday evening December 30 1999 at Southwest Micro Pub COMP located at 2627 East Yandel Drive El Paso Texas 79903.
Brownfield crushed Henrietta 70 51 in Abilene to advance to the Area round behind 26 points from Shad Evans and 21 from Bjorn Foyn. The Cubs will meet Perryton at 7 30 p m Tuesday in Amarillo.
The Wellman Wildcats defeated Sands 66 to 47 in Seminole to secure their first bi district win in school history. Coach Gary Cates praised the mood yet noted jitters from playoff pressure as Wellman prepares to face Nazareth, aiming for a stronger effort.
Five candidates have filed for Brownfield City Council seats including Ricky Willis in District 5 and others for at large and District 4 posts. Filing runs through March 17 across Brownfield Meadow and Wellman with general election May 1 and early voting April 12 to 27. Early voting in Brownfield is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall.

Sheryl Swoopes returns to Levelland for an emotional Texan Dome ceremony as South Plains College retires her No 22 jersey. The former Lady Texan and Texas Tech standout, 6-0 forward, left SPC with 15 school records including 1,620 points and 749 rebounds in 63 games, guiding SPC to 52 wins and a first Region V crown.
Diane Fulford of Brownfield Intermediate and TTU graduate student Renee Dillard presented a 41 page research paper at the national Conference of Teacher Educators in Los Angeles. The study linked classroom behaviors to student learning focusing on verbal and nonverbal cues and included 19 behaviors, later refined to 21. Fulford noted similarities in behaviors used by elementary teachers and administrators, with secondary educators showing less overlap.
County residents support the Children's Protective Services which oversees a board of 11 with five permanent officials. The group, run on modest donations and United Way funds, aims to provide medicines, diapers, clothing, and school help to needy children to prevent foster care placement.
