Brownfield Texas holds the 11th annual Public Schools Week with a huge bus tour and local open houses. The schedule runs today through March 4 with bus tours at 10 am and luncheon at noon. Evening open houses are set for five campuses with radio programs daily and a Friday faculty session in Lubbock.

Seay of 1003 East Harris departs Mayport Florida January 28 aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Franklin D Roosevelt for a seven month Sixth Fleet Mediterranean tour. The FDR will participate in exercises and promote Eisenhower's People to People program with visits to Spain France Italy and Greece. This marks the Roosevelt's 12th cruise to the region.

Avelino DeLeon Found Guilty In Murder Habitual Case
Avelino DeLeon, 37, Latin American, is found guilty of murder without malice in the Aug. 28 slaying at Mike's Cafe. Under habitual criminal law his conviction carries a life sentence, with mandatory sentencing to follow. Attorney H. B. Virgil Crawford will move for a new trial. The jury reached verdict at 9:30 a.m. after three days of trial. DeLeon has two prior theft convictions in Bailey and Brazos counties. He and his family reside in Brownfield. The presiding judge was M. C. Ledbetter. jurors included Clarence Denson and others.
