Mrs. Joe Henson of Rt. 1 Brownfield wins February Shop At Home contest and $15 prize. Second place goes to Mrs. Paul Young. she will collect $10 at the NEWS office. Henson, resident of Terry County since 1920, praises local merchants for community support and notes Brownfield taxes sustain county functions. She serves long in PTA, Boys Club, Home Demonstration Club, Garden Club, and Terry County Historical Committee. JC's Black Birth Defects Campaign Starts Wednesday

Brownfield Jaycees hold a two hour campaign from 4 to 6 pm at Hill and Third Main and Third and Broadway and Third to raise funds for the March of Dimes. National Foundation reports 250000 infants affected yearly by birth defects plus 60,000 deaths among unborn and young people.

Muldrow Seeks Seat on Brownfield School Board

Ken Muldrow has filed for place three on the Brownfield Independent School Board of Trustees. Incumbent John McFarland did not file for re-election. Election for places one and two is set for April 1 with filing due by 5 p.m. Wednesday in the high school business office. Candidates must be qualified voters of the district. Billie Moore and James Thurman have not filed for re-election.

George George Named To Five Committees In Texas House

Texas State Representative Jesse T. George of Terrell County earns seats on five House committees including Constitutional Amendments and Education. He will also serve on Motor Traffic and Agriculture and was named vice chairman of the School District Committee. The appointments come as Speaker Ben Barnes notes George’s qualifications for tackling state education and constitutional issues.

Thomason Trains at A M for Game Warden

Curtis Thomason 32 attends five month training at Texas A&M University College Station to become a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. He was chosen from 550 applicants for a 33 man class and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J F Thomason of Brownfield. Prior to the school he worked for Armored Motor Service of San Antonio.
