Meadow High School defeated the Gail Coyotes 67 to 56 to advance to Region I competition in Canyon. Jimmy Pendergrass Donnie Hester and Maurice Warren led Meadow with a strong first half, while Gail fought back late but fell short.
Texas Public Schools Week begins Monday with the theme Democracy In Action. Superintendent O R Douglas said events include meetings radio programs open houses and science demonstrations. Tours for Brownfield schools and a businessman's lunch tour are planned with a science fair at Colonial Heights.

Elementary and Negro contestants start today with junior high and older divisions beginning Friday. Finalists from four divisions compete for a $50 grand prize.

Consolation bracket games open at 6 p.m. today with Wilson vs Wellman B in the opener. other matches include Ropesville vs Wellman B boys at 7 p.m. Smyer vs Dawson girls at 5 p.m. and Whiteface vs Dawson boys at 9 p.m.
