Brownfield Cubs cap record season with 23 wins, 72 48 victory
Brownfield finishes 23-8, the most wins in school history, after a 72-48 win over Cooper at Cub Gym. The Cubs also set marks for points in a half, total points in a season, and fewest points allowed, while logging an eight game win streak and reaching the district schedule before missing the playoffs. Terry County Junior Livestock Show drew 321 animals at the county stock barn as grand and reserve prizes were awarded in swine, lambs, and steers. Brownfield School Board election field swells to five
With one week to file, the Brownfield School Board at large race for two seats has five candidates: Incumbent Brenda Rudd and challengers Leon Pope Enedina Muniz Candalario Davila and Bob Simpson. Incumbent Tom Hardy has not filed. Mar 4 is the final filing day at BISD Administration Building. No new candidates have filed in Meadow Wellman or Union races. Meadow incumbents Jerry Liles Loyd Jordan face no challengers. Wellman incumbent Lynn Hudson has filed for one of two open seats. Union has no filings for three vacancies or the one year term. Escape attempt ends with man sustaining broken bones
Johnny Lansing, 25, nearly escaped from Terry County Jail during a Sunday church service, slipping to the third floor office, opening a window, and jumping out. Deputies tracked his landing site and found blood on the north side of the courthouse as they proceeded west.
