Day Care Center Formation Planned in Brownfield

A general meeting to organize a Day Care Center for Wheatley School area children will be held Monday March 1 at 7 30 p m at the South Plains Health Center. Parents church and civic leaders must support the center with by laws board selection and officer elections. The nine to fifteen member board should include capable diverse citizens. Both men and women are sought.

Many Mice To Attend Colleges In Terry County Drive

Terry County students join a fundraising drive to Send A Mouse to College for cancer research. Brownfield schools contribute 1117 mice at 27 cents each, Union 50 mice, Wellman 124, Meadow 114, part of a $5,000 goal led by Mrs. Bonard Stice with co chairmen Mrs. Belew and Mrs. Simmonds and general leaders George Weiss and W A Leigon.

Water Inc Urges West Texans to Register to Vote

Water Inc officials urge all eligible West Texans to register in 1971 before the February 28 deadline extension. The group backs May 18 ballot Measure Four to cap interest on water development bonds and authorize 100 million dollars for water reclamation matching funds. Martinez, a barber and migrant program counselor, moved from Beeville 17 years ago and runs Martinez Barber Shop with his wife and two children. King, a farmer, and his wife have four children.

Solons approve purchase and easement at Terry County session

Terry County Commissioners approved buying a new Ateco ripper packer for Caterpillar No. 120 motor grader for Precinct Two from West Texas Equipment Company for 6292.50 dollars. They also authorized a 160 dollar donation to the Texas Historical Society Foundation Fund. The board granted an easement for a 10 inch plastic water line buried 40 inches.

Faulkenberry Files For Re Election To ISD Board

Dr Tim Faulkenberry has filed for re election to Place Four on Brownfield Independent School District Board of Trustees. Carrol Col Mer Place Five trustee term expires and has not filed. Faulkenberry is the only candidate to file before the filing deadline Wednesday March 3. Election for two trustees will be Saturday April 3.

Dr. Robert Metzer of Texas A&M Extension Service led a Terry County Cotton Production Conference stressing quality cotton and smart cultural practices. He advised planting quality varieties and good seed, careful stand management, early weed control, proper irrigation timing, and consideration of narrow-row methods. Marvin Martin and Sartin discussed farm programs and crop alternatives as Vernon Farrar announced an area-wide conference in Lubbock with SPD support at 9:15 a.m. at KoKo Palace.

Piano Solos Win Talent Tourney

The 19th annual Tournament of Talent, sponsored by the Noon Lions Club, honored solo performers. In the Elementary School Division at Brown Field High School Auditorium, 21 acts were judged by Harley Bulls, Vente Balch and Chuck Span, with Paige Gannaway taking first place.

Ag Handbook Highlights County Demonstration efforts

City Hit By Snow Hail Sleet And Tornado Toll

The article reports Terry County's moisture totals reaching .34 inches over the weekend and notes five inches of snow amid high winds.
