Fredrick Jackson leads the race as Monday deadline nears for the top vote getter in the Everybody Wins subscription contest. Voters and organizers describe a concerted push over the past five days as pivotal in shaping the outcome.
Deputy Ted Jones plans resignation effective March 1 to join Pecos City Police Department with higher salary and shorter hours. He began at the Terry County sheriff’s office August 26, 1966, coming from Slaton City Police. native of Fort Worth also worked with Post Police Department. No replacement named yet.
Waggoner Carr, candidate for governor, will visit the Gillham Room in Brownfield at 2 p.m. Monday. He invites all citizens to drop by for an informal chat and a short talk. Terry County Democratic Women will serve coffee to all guests.
Brownfield Independent School Board of Trustees will meet at 7 30 p m in the Brownfield High School library. Agenda covers curriculum report enroll ment report and business report with items on physical examination health records and PTA recommendations. Unfinished and new business include policy review accreditation visit calendar and personnel re employment.
Bill Whitis of the American Cancer Society spoke at the Brownfield Rotary Club meeting. He presented films A Sense of Security and a San Antonio doctor’s cancer story, highlighting cures, early detection, and Cancer Control Month volunteers. Lanny Webb urged Rotary help as 2,000,000 volunteers are mobilized nationwide.
A countywide meeting on quality cotton production is set for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Hall. Jim Foy, Terry County Agricultural Agent, notes the event targets cotton producers and ginners seeking top quality fiber for textile mills, with discussions on seed to bale management.
A teaching demonstration by Mrs. Gwen Hensley AAAS teacher consultant will be part of a 10 am conference in the Arnett Room Citizens National Bank Lubbock. Dr. O R Douglas Education Service Center Region XVII notes background staff development and costs as officials review the AAAS Pro cess approach.
Hale County judge James A. Joy and candidate for Civil Appeals Court of the Seventh District will meet the public 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the Gold Room of the First National Bank. The event invites visitors and will serve refreshments.
Fredrick Jackson a Union High School junior won first in the High School Division of the 16th annual Tournament of Talent. He advances to compete with elementary and junior high winners for the grand prize a four person all expenses paid trip to Houston. The event featured many students, including Patricia Adams in junior high and the Prince Trio in elementary, with prizes of 30 20 and 10 dollars. Proceeds from a cake auction benefit the Kerrville Crippled Children's Camp.
Funeral services for 80 year old Mrs. B Finley are set for Meadow Church of Christ at 2 30 p m with John McCoy of Corpus Christi officiating assisted by Meadow church minister Jim Massey Burial will follow at Meadow Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction Mrs Finley a longtime Terry County resident died Friday at her home 1303 E Buckley from an apparent heart attack She moved to Brownfield from Meadow in 1957 when her husband retired from farming Survivors include husband two sons Fred of Meadow and Elmer of Dallas one daughter Mrs James E Finley of Brownfield one brother G B Jones of Meadow eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren Nephews will serve as pallbearers
West Texas Airmen's Association members will gather for a Dutch dinner at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brownfield Country Club. Guest speaker Lt Colonel Pierson of Reese Air Force Base will discuss defoliation in Vietnam and his service as a C-123 Defoliation troop commander. He now teaches P-38 pilots at Reese and invites anyone interested in flying to attend.
