The Brownfield Merchants Group will meet at 7 a.m. Friday in the Chamber of Commerce for its third session since organizing last month. President C. G. Griffith urges all Brownfield merchants to attend. coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Curtis Didway son of former Brownfield NEWS editor Charles Didway is named Mr PHS at Post High School. He began school in 1948 and is a football basketball and track letterman, senior class vice president, Drama Club vice president and editor of The Post Dispatch. Glenda Whittenberg named Miss PHS, the school’s top non academic honor. The article notes activity across school life and recognition of senior leaders.

Olen R. Petty of Levelland, 23, declares his bid for representative of the 98th District. The field currently includes incumbent Robert L. Bowers Jr. of Brownfield. The district covers Terry Yoakum Cochran and Hockley counties. primary set for May 7. Petty is the son of longtime Hockley residents and a Levelland High School graduate.
World War I veterans in Terry are urged to check eligibility for benefits before July 1. Veterans service officer Dale Brown notes stricter rules after the deadline and asks all veterans to contact him within 30 days for eligibility review.
Brownfield attendees at the Dallas Gift Show last Sunday through Wednesday include Mr. and Mrs. Lal Copeland of Copeland Hardware Robbie Jones and Robert Knight of Knight Hardware Mr. and Mrs. George Wade of Palomino Gift Shop and Mr. and Mrs. Prentice Walker planning to open a gift shop in Cloudcroft New Mexico The Show features displays in three Dallas auditoriums and two hotels and runs twice a year presenting new items in toys jewelry hardware and household goods.
Bayless Jewelry at 507 West Main will close today ahead of its annual stock reduction sale. Owner Jim Bayless said the sale starts at 10 a.m. Friday.
Terry residents interested in helping with the federal census will be interviewed at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce. Earl E. Kerr of Lubbock will oversee the project which starts April 1 and lasts 30 days. Workers are paid per contact and Kerr hopes to hire at least 16 from Terry.
The 1960 Athletic Banquet at Union High School starts at 7 30 p m Friday in the cafeteria. Rev Ed Crow of First Baptist Church is the speaker, sponsored by the juniors, with tickets sold by the student group.
Mrs Alta Campbell of Lub bock visits son Nelson Campbell daughter in law and granddaughter Judy at 801 South Seventh in Lub bock.
The wife of the minister who served Brownfield First Methodist Church 1944 46 died Monday in Methodist Hospital Lubbock. Mrs R N Huckabee 71 funeral held Bow man Chapel Lubbock church officiated by Dr J Chess Levern Dr J O Haymes and Dr Martin Boyd burial Resthaven Memorial Park. Survivors include son John D Huckabee Geneva Ill daughter Elizabeth Veteck Denver Colo two grandchildren and sister Mrs Adine C Myers Savannah Ga. The Rev Mr and Mrs Huckabee moved to Lubbock in 1951 from Floydada and had lived in Rails Berger Amarillo Quanah and Wellington. She attended Ward Belmont College and trained with the Kindergarten Association in Nashville Tennessee. She was active in church kindergartens and a member of Eastern Star Daughters of the Confederacy Avihk Temple 70 Daughters of the Nile.
About 70 new names were added to the Terry County Farm Bureau rolls after a membership drive last week. A goal of 927 members was reportedly reached, with emphasis on maintaining the total through Oct. 31. Another drive is planned for September. If quotas hold, Terry County will send 10 voting delegates to the Texas state convention in Dallas, and Texas counties collectively aim for 80 000 members at the national sessions in Denver.
Mrs. Jack Browder of South Fourth called on Mr and Mrs Kenneth Threet and their son in Tatum during a recent visit.
