Early voting and political figures noted in Terry County

Early voting continues for the March 8 Democratic and Republican primaries with 52 Democratic ballots and six Republican ballots cast so far and seven Democratic ballots mailed. Local officials include Post Commander and State Judge Advocate McKelvey, an Air Force veteran who served in eight campaigns as B 24 pilot, and Mrs. Lankford, State President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, retired nurse and businesswoman, tied to Electra and Corpus Christi events.

BISD Trustees extend all administrators contracts

Brownfield Independent School District trustees renewed all administrator contracts for one year at the Monday meeting. The board also approved the resignation of Robert Allen, high school biology teacher and middle school coach, effective year end. Several principals and directors had their contracts extended. The district set May 7 for the election, appointed judges, and noted all seven seats will be up after redistricting.

BID Corp Nears Fourth Anniversary In Brownfield

The Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation funded by a half-percent sales tax since July 1990 marks nearly four years of activity. The first major project is a 500 bed state prison opening in March 1995, expected to employ 285 people. The five-member board guides policy with input from the Industrial Development Advisory Team, while BID Corp. seeks a new full-time economic director after the death of Jerry Hinnenkamp in 1993.
