Residents file for Brownfield Board of Education seats

Two residents have filed for three vacancies on the Brownfield Board of Education. Incumbent Robert Baumgardner and Truett Flache have filed to date. Trustees whose terms expire April 1 are Baumgardner Burnett Jr. and James Thurman. Filing deadline is March 2 with the election April 1, 8 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the county superintendent’s courthouse office.

The statewide 1 30 p m Saturday alert mobilized Battery B of the 2nd Howitzer Battalion 133rd Artillery to 155 mm weapons. Captain Fred Adams said 81 percent answered muster Day 1963 with 50 percent in about an hour. The drill moved civilians into soldiers totaling 20 000 region wide.

Longtime Terry Resident Mrs W T Patton Dies at 82

Mrs. W T Patton, a longtime Terry resident aged 82, died Tuesday night at her home 619 East Hill. Services were incomplete Wednesday at Brownfield Funeral Home. Survived by two sons Grady Patton of Route 5 and Alvis Patton of Route 4 and two daughters Mrs S B Johnson of St Louis Ill and Mrs Irene Beauchamp of Fort Worth.

Meeting Set for 8 p.m. at BHS Young Farmers Chapter To Be Formed

A new Young Farmers of Texas chapter will be organized at Brownfield High School in the Agriculture Building at 8 p.m. today with state advisor E. L. Tiner present to assist. Walter Meyer notes about 60 farmers under 35 in Terry County are eligible joining, and the group will meet monthly to study farm management, insect control, income tax, arc welding, and shop work. If interest grows, Texas A&M will send experts for up to five nights of teaching.

Tower Warns of Benevolent Dictatorship in Texas Senate Bid

GOP candidate John Tower told about 100 Terry County Republicans at The Party House that Americans risk a benevolent dictatorship if they rely on the federal government. He urged conservative ideals, opposing Kennedy’s New Frontier and federal subsidies while pledging to govern himself and his community. Duo Escapes Fumes After Close Call in Apartment

A young couple, Jerry Browning and Linda Langford Browning, escaped possible death from carbon monoxide in a garage apartment at 105 W Cardwell. Two open flames were burning full blast as Linda fell ill and Jerry, after eating, fainted, locking the door. Parents knocked, but entry failed. both neighbors were found unconscious inside.
