Brownfield Receives Traffic Sign Grant From Governor
Governor Dolph Briscoe announced a 14439 grant to Brownfield for a sign replacement program to align with the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Codes. Traffic engineer Bob Lay said funds cover updating signs not worn or damaged and require city ordinance, maintenance agreement, and inventory.

First City Manager Dies Rites Conducted Here Friday
Eunice D. Jones aged 77, first Brownfield city manager, died February 19 after a short illness. Funeral services were held Friday at Crescent Hill Church of Christ with interment in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. He led Brownfield water and sewerage efforts and served as fire chief for 27 years before retiring in 1966. He was a lifelong city employee and later advisory for city departments. Survivors include a son, three brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Wade A. Warren of Littlefield was named publisher of the Brownfield News to begin February 23. He succeeds Sig H. Atkinson, who led since March 1969, and will also be president. Warren previously led the Lamb County Leader News and has prior service as advertising manager at the Press-Reporter in Lamesa. He and his wife Carolyn have three children and plan to relocate to Brownfield. He praised the Brownfield community and pledged first class coverage reflecting Brownfield and Terry County.

Tahoka Road Traffic Study Good News Drives City Decision
City council accepted a traffic study by engineers from Brownfield Lamesa Plainview and the Governor's Office on Traffic Safety. The report found Tahoka Road has no high accident rate and parking should not be completely prohibited. Proposals include restriping Ballard Street approaches to three lanes and restricting parking near Ballard Street for defined distances.
