Don Tankersley presided as Charles Henderson of the Marfa Texas Border Patrol information office spoke to the Terry County Farmers group. Bill Kleine arranged the program from the Lubbock office. Henderson described Border Patrol aims to enforce immigration law and noted a shift toward narcotics enforcement with marijuana the major item, citing 2.5 million dollars worth in February to April 1970.
City Council PTA and school administrators met to decide how to keep parents and teachers informed about school needs and student activities. A March 1 questionnaire will ask parents—from kindergarten to high school—how to improve communication and whether to form or maintain a PTA or an alternative school family group.
City council met in regular session to set a public hearing for 9 a.m. March 18 on re zoning in the P B N addition and Palisades Park addition, and a city election for April 6 to replace three veteran councilmen. Dennis McCutcheon is election judge with Jack Greenfield as alternate. Jake Geron city manager.
National FFA Week events run Feb 2027 with the theme Involved in America's Future. Terry County hosts four chapters at B High School Union High School Wellman High School and Meadow High School. The FFA expands across 940 Texas high schools with 50 000 members practicing vocational agriculture and leadership.
Brownfield City Council set an April 6 election to fill three council seats as terms of Sammy Jones Truett Flache and Lloyd Hahn end after two two year terms. By Friday three candidates filed Bill Marchbanks Odell Sears and Jim Reed with filing open through March 6 at City Hall. Marchbanks a farmer from Terry County and father of Baylor senior John lives at 1608 E. Tate.
Lt. Lee Bartlett Jr. of the Brownfield Police Department received the 1970 Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer award at the fifth Terry County Officers Appreciation Banquet. He donated the $100 prize to the Dallas officers’ families fund, while the event honored local lawmen and promoted two patrolmen to sergeants. The evening featured remarks by Judge Robert C. Wright and prayers for Dallas officers, with community leaders praising officers and families.
