BRMC Board approves May 7 bond election for refinancing

Brownfield Regional Medical Center directors move to hold a May 7 special bond election. City Secretary Zelma Miller joins IMC Academy for Advanced Education

Brownfield's City Secretary Zelma Miller becomes the 21st municipal clerk accepted into the Third Sustaining Membership of the International Institute of Municipal Courts Academy for Advanced Education. The Academy, started in 1981, rewards active pursuit of ongoing education and professional activity. Miller may use the CMC/AAE designation for her remaining municipal career.

Indicted Texas man for mail fraud and money laundering

A federal grand jury in Lubbock returned a 60 count indictment charging Lonnie D. Clark with mail fraud and money laundering. The scheme allegedly ran from March 20, 1990 through to the present, seeking to defraud insurance companies by inducing disability claims. Authorities include U S Attorney Paul E. Coggins and IRS Criminal Investigations Division.

Masons honor Jake Geron with Lifetime Achievement

Brownfield Masonic Lodge 903 honored Jake Geron at a Monday meeting naming him a Lifetime Achievement recipient. A 45 year member, Geron joined the Masons in 1948 and is a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason from the Lubbock bodies. He was born September 26 1916 in Lamar County, graduated Whitharral High School valedictorian in 1936, played basketball at Texas Tech, served as Red Raider co captain, and flew 11 combat missions in WWII before being interned in Switzerland and exchanged back to the U S in 1944.
