Brownfield Bank Fails. FDIC Reopens as New Entity
Brownfield State Bank and Trust was closed by State Banking Commissioner James Sexton on Friday after loan losses drained capital. FDIC plans to reopen the two offices on Tuesday as branches of Brownfield State Bank, a new subsidiary of American State Financial Corp of Lubbock. Depositors will become depositors of the new bank. The FDIC purchased select loan accounts to support the transfer, with Federal Reserve approval enabling the American State Financial Corp acquisition.

Brownfield State Bank Closes After Long Run Decline
Texas' third oldest state bank, Brownfield State Bank & Trust, closed its doors at 6:00 p.m. Friday February 17 1984 after a decade of fluctuating quarterly deposits and assets. A 1983 deposit drop followed prior growth, with peaks in 1982 and early 1983. The bank had opened October 2 1905 and was shuttered by its board amid unresolved losses.
