The Brownfield Jaycees announce their annual Awards Banquet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday February 26 at the Holiday House. The highlight is naming the Outstanding Young Man of Terry County for 1969 based on achievements leadership and service in the past year while a resident of Terry County. Marion Snell was 1968’s winner. Also to be honored are Outstanding Jaycee of the Year and Boss of the Year. Crow will host and Bob Spikes of Amarillo will be guest speaker.

Two Charged With Murder After Sunday Shooting

Felix Garcia Fernandez and Casimiro Naranjo, both of Tokio, face murder with malice and assault with intent to murder charges after Armando Alcorta Garcia, 19, was killed and two men, Ernesto Garcia 17 and George Cisneros 19, were wounded Sunday. Cisneros is in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. Garcia died at Brownfield General Hospital.

Washington Birthday sale planned by Brownfield merchants

Local plans outline a weekend event celebrating George Washington’s birthday. Registration for cherry pies and $50 bonus bucks runs all day Saturday and Monday in participating Brownfield stores with a 3 p.m. Monday drawing at Stacy-Mason Furniture. Lions Club Talent Show Screenings At Brownfield High

Crowds gathered for the 15th annual Lions Club Talent Show screenings at Brownfield High School Auditorium. Committee chair Jim Zoth and co chair Woody Swaringen lead a panel including Al Langston Hal Pirtle Robert Powers and H W Mellroy. First night features elementary division at 7 30 pm with prizes for top three and the grand prize contest Friday pits winners from three divisions. Last year’s Grand Prize winner was Mike Sims from Wellman Elementary with Alley Cat piano solo.

Hospital Board Calls Election for April 4

Terry Memorial Hospital District directors vote to call an election for April 4 with three seats open. Terms expiring include J. V. Riley L. G. Smith and Ralph Spain. Filing deadline is March 9 at 5 p.m. and petitions require 10 qualified voters. Directors also approve district wide election and approve payments to contractors and architects for the new hospital.
